Artist Lauren White will be leading a workshop on how to hand bind a journal with upcycled attributes. To do this, we will be working with cord, old book covers, new fabric and new paper. Come learn how to create a hand-bound journal, once you know how to make a journal, the possibilities are endless. Each class attendee will leave with their very own journal cover they created in the class.

We will be learning about the different steps on book binding, starting with using an awl to puncture new holes in your cover. Understanding what a “signature” is, in bookbinding terminology. Learning how to measure how many signatures to fit on a book’s spine and lastly we will be learning a new stitch, as there are many to use for different looks and reasons. Come join to learn a skill that few know!

Growing up surrounded by gardeners and artists, Lauren White's work is inspired by her curiosity of how we can work in harmony with nature. Lauren best portrays her pull back to nature through her creative ways of upcycling or using nature to create functional yet beautiful pieces. She strives to reduce waste and toxic ingredients and rather uses materials harmonious with the natural cycles in life.
